Since the release of her film Medicating Normal on PBS, Amazon, and YouTube in 2022, Lynn Cunningham has dedicated herself to raising public awareness about the medicalization of distress and the importance of informed consent. Through film screenings and related outreach, she works to help patients, families, and medical professionals better understand the risks and benefits of psychiatric medications. As Executive Director of Periscope Foundation, Lynn supports projects and organizations that use public education to advance truly informed consent, helping people make decisions with greater knowledge, confidence, and care.
Since the late 1980s, Lynn has worked as an editor, director, and producer on films and television programs for PBS, the History Channel, and independent producers. Some of her credits include Behind the Scenes, a PBS arts series for children; American Experience: Walter Reuther and the Birth of the UAW; and Michael Blackwood Productions’ Mel Bochner: Thought Made Visible, Tadao Ando, and Butoh: A Body on the Edge of Crisis, among others. In 1997, Lynn directed and produced A Quiet Revolution: The Emergence of Alternative Education in Japan, which received the Japan Times Award. Her other creative endeavors include a series of personal archival films, including Twenty Years of Co-Education, A Family in Progress, and An Innovator’s Story.
Lynn holds a B.A. in Architecture from Yale University, class of 1983. She has raised two children with her husband of 29 years and has long been involved in school volunteer work and nonprofit initiatives.
