Dainius Pūras is a professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and teaches at the Faculty of Medicine, Institute of International Relations and Political Science and Faculty of Philosophy of Vilnius University, Lithuania. He is also a visiting Professor at the University of Essex, United Kingdom, and a Distinguished Visitor with the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, Georgetown University, USA. From 2014 to 2020 he was the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. He is a human rights advocate who has been actively involved during the last 30 years in the process of transforming public health policies and services, with special focus on the rights of children, persons with mental disabilities, and other groups in vulnerable situations.
